1. Gamla hamn, Fårö
A smaller trading and fishing harbour, partly hidden in the beautiful scenery of Fårö. In the surroundings are remains that indicate a harbour from the Viking and Early Medieval period.


2. The Bunge Museum
The picture stones that can be visited outside the museum are from the 10th century and contain fascinating mythological scenes carved on the stones surfaces.


3. S:t Olof's Chapel, Hellvi
The place where Saint Olof is said to have landed when he christened the Gotlanders in the beginning of the 11th c. Nowadays there is a chapel built on medieval foundations.


4. Lilla Ihre, Hellvi
The grave field is one of the largest on Gotland with more than 600 visible graves consisting of circular stone settings and cairns. Many of the graves were richly equipped, also a picture stone was found during investigations.


5. Stora Bjärs, Lärbro
Grave field with about 200 graves consisting of stone settings, stone coffins and slabs placed edgeways. It was possibly in use already during late Bronze Age and then used throughout the Iron Age.


6. Lilla Bjärs, Stenkyrka
Gotland’s second largest grave field extends over an area of 15 hectares with more than 1000 visible graves consisting of stone cairns and stone ships.


7. Bulverket, Tingstäde
In the middle of Tingstäde lake lies the remarkable Bulverket. It is made up of large coffins of wooden logs, which constitute a square with sides of about 170 metres in length. Probably built during the beginning of the 12th c., and was only used for a short period.


8. Picture stones, Bro
Two picture stones from the late Viking Age with the classical ”mushroom-shape”. They are standing in their original location that is rare.


9. Bjärs, Hejnum
Grave field with stone settings and cairns that were in use between
0-1000 A.D. 160 graves were investigated in the 1880’s.


10. The County Museum, Visby
The picture stones, the treasure chamber and fascinating Viking Age artefacts in the exhibitions make the museum a perfect starting point for own excursions among the historic sites on the island.


11. Trullhalsar, Norrlanda
Legendary grave field with 350 graves consisting of stone cairns, stone circles and stone ships.


12. Vikingabyn, Tofta
Reconstructed Viking farm with several buildings and many activities. Open all year for groups and during the summer for the general public.


13. Roma
Already 1000 years ago people met here for the market and the thing. The Gutna Althing functioned as the highest political and religious body. Here are also the remains of a Cistercian abbey from the 12th century.


14. Grogarnsberget, Gammelgarn
The hillfort is situated on the edge of a cliff and is surrounded with a bank made up of earth and stones.


15. Torsburgen, Kräklingbo
The largest prehistoric military establishment in Scandinavia. A natural fortress where the walls are still visible.


16. Picture stone, Ardre
Here you can see a reconstruction of a stone from the 8th or 9th century A.D. that was found beneath the floor in Ardre church. The stone depicts a number of well-known mythological scenes.


17. Fjäle deserted farm, Ala
One of Sweden’s best-preserved Viking Age farmsteads, with house foundations, wells and graves, as well as reconstruction of a medieval farm building.


18. Picture stones at Änge, Buttle
Here are two early Viking Age stones still standing in their original location. One of them measures 3,7 metres in height, which makes it the largest stone found on Gotland.


19. Paviken and Västergarn
One of the larger Viking Age harbour and trading places with traces of shipbuilding yards, handicraft industries and living quarters. Traces of a town wall surround the ancient settlement.


20. Fröjel
A Viking Age harbour and trading place where archaeological investigations so far have unearthed more than 38.000 objects from the grave fields and the settlement.


21. Picture stones at Stenbro, Sproge
Two stones standing on each side of the small river. One of them is a copy of a stone that was found during roadwork in 1998.


22. Smiss and Rikvide, När
The grave field contains about 800 graves. Several picture stones as well as a large number of artefacts from the Vendel- and the Viking Age have been found on the grave field and in its vicinity.


23. Stavgard and Bandlundeviken, Burs
Harbour and trading place at Bandlundeviken, with a reconstructed Iron Age farm. The place is known for a legendary silver treasure, found in 1975. Activities are held spring and fall, but the farm can be viewed all year round.


24. Picture- and runestone, Hablingbo
The picture- and the runestone stone are now on display inside the church. The runestone, with a similar shape as the picture stone, was found on the churchyard. The inscription reads: “Vatgair and Halgair raised this stone after Hailgi, their father, he had gone to the West with the Vikings”.


25. The Barshaldershed grave-field, Grötlingbo/Fide
Gotland’s largest grave field were in use around 0-1050 A.D., and contains over 2000 known and surveyed graves. Several investigations have given an unusually rich material, not least from the Viking Age.
